PSP Slim & Lite Black

The PSP has now been revamped and is now called the PSP slim and lite. The basic functions have remained the same including the large and crisp 4.3 inch widescreen high resolution LCD screen, which is extremely large for a handheld device. The new PSP black is 33 percent lighter and 19 percent slimmer than the original version, making it even easier to carry around at approximately 189g in weight and 18.6mm in thickness.

To enable the PSP black slim and lite to shed some weight and size a few alterations have been made, firstly the infrared port’s gone - there’s now a switch on the top to activate Wi-Fi and the UMD door now flaps open, which enables the PSP to be thinner. Game commands stay the same, with the same L and R buttons, D-pad and four control keys.

New features for the PSP black include a TV-out socket, where you will be able to hook your PSP to your TV and play all your favourite games or browse the Internet on the big screen. You can buy a component AV cable which connects via the headphone socket, which can be bought separately to enable this feature.

As with the original PSP, you can access files stored at home on your PS3 remotely, and as a bonus you can now charge your PSP slim black via USB. Battery life is around 4-6 hours depending on usage.

The technical specification of the PSP slim & lite black is as follows:

  • Weight of unit Approx. 189g (including battery)

  • Display 4.3 inches (16:9) 480 x 272 pixel, Approximately 16,770,000 colours displayed

Extremely impressive

The PSP Slim is a fantastic little machine. It produces unbelievable graphics and sound from within its tiny casing. The TV-out function is a great addition, and the unit is extremely thin and light. The vast library of games available for the PSP is also worth mentioning, and there are also many new titles coming out before Christmas. The PSP Slim is a great improvement on the previous version. ~ J Durham

The PSP slim is a great product. It’s light, and feels great in your hands. There is currently a great library of games and more to come on the way. The only people who have a problem with the new PSP are either Sony haters or people who are angry because they bought the old PSP and don't want to shell out for the better, newer one. ~ G Davies
